It’s that time of year again, when we reflect on the accomplishments and events of the previous year! Birthstream families…and their midwives were busy in 2019. Come take a look back with us!
So every year our webmistress (RFT) gets a little more tech savvy…with the mentorship from her adult/adolescent sons. This year we have a page full of fun info-graphics to give a snapshot of 2019 for Birthstream families! Remember, there are so many beautiful and triumphant moments that cannot ever be captured by words and numbers. We treasure those sweet moments and the little people that were created and birthed with love.
“Guess who had a home birth?”
“Like mother, like child”
Second generation Home Birthers: There were 8 families whose mothers birthed at home…Tosi was the midwife for 5 of their mothers!
“Never too many baby feet!”
There were 50 Birthstream Babies born in 2019: 20 Girls, 30 Boys
Although it is the most common to have a 2nd baby with Birthstream, we are grateful to serve families of all sizes!
“Good things come in small (and large) packages”
Birthstream babies come in all sizes! The smallest baby was 5 lbs 6 oz and the biggest baby was 10 lbs 9 oz!
Birthstream midwives know that babies of ALL sizes can be born at home! In fact 18% of all babies in 2019 were over 4000 grams (8 lbs 14 oz)!
“VBAC, what’s that?”
There were 4 families who planned and had VBACs/HBACs with Birthstream in 2019. VBAC is a vaginal birth after cesarean and HBAC is a home birth after cesarean. In an era where opportunities for hospital VBAC are limited by policy or practice it is important that we offer this option to women as we always have.
This past year, The Medical Board of California had an agenda item that would limit Licensed Midwives ability to attend women having VBACs at home. Tosi and other LMs spent time educating legislators at the State Capitol and board members at the Medical Board Meeting in San Diego and were met with great (temporary) success! We know that there will be more challenges to women’s access to midwifery care and their ability to make health care choices for their children, but we will be ready when the time comes!
Thank you all for sharing your year with us!
We are grateful to be part of those moments as you welcomed new little people into your home. We look forward to a New Year with Joy and Gratitude...and more babies!
